About Dr. Jené Verchick

Hello, I'm Dr. Jené Verchick. I'm a licensed psychologist in Los Angeles with 26+ years of experience. Couples work is my specialty, and I also work with individuals on anxiety, perfectionism, and the other patterns that make daily life harder than it should be.

With couples, most of the people I see are not in crisis. They are two people who love each other and keep landing in the same argument, or who have drifted somewhere quieter and want to find their way back. That is the work I know best.

With individuals, I see a lot of high-functioning people who look fine on the outside and are running hot underneath. Anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, low moods, and the weight of being the person everyone else counts on. You do not need to be in crisis to come in. Wanting things to feel better is reason enough.

My Training

I hold a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) from the California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles. Before that I earned a master's in Clinical Psychology, also at the California School of Professional Psychology, and a master's in Child, Adolescent and Family Therapy from the University of Southern California. My bachelor's in Psychology is from the University of Arizona.

I am a licensed psychologist with the California Board of Psychology, License PSY 18703

Professional Memberships

I am a member of the American Psychological Association and a Member in Good Standing of the Los Angeles County Psychological Association.

Featured Writing

I write regularly about marriage, anxiety, and the patterns that quietly pull long-term relationships apart. A few recent pieces:

You can read more of my writing on the blog.

The Methods I Draw On

I am integrative by training, which means I do not run everyone through one method. I draw on the approaches with the strongest track record for the problem in front of us: the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples, Discernment Counseling for couples deciding whether to stay, and Cognitive Behavioral, psychodynamic, and attachment-based work for individual issues like anxiety, depression, and OCD. Which of these I use depends on you. I don't use a one size fits all approach.

How I Work

I participate. I don't just sit back and nod. You are not paying me to observe your marriage, you are paying me to help you change it, and I am in it with you. When the same fight starts to unfold in the room, I step in, because that is where the real work happens. I am warm, and I am active, and I will be honest with you about what I see.

Who I Work With

I work with couples at every stage: partners who are newly serious, newlyweds, long-married couples who have grown distant, and couples working through conflict, trust, or a major life change.

I also work with individuals on anxiety, high-functioning anxiety and perfectionism, depression, OCD, burnout, grief, and hard life transitions. Some people come in for their relationship, some for themselves, and plenty for both at once.
