Best psychologist in Los Angeles

Hello, I'm Dr. Jené Verchick. If you're searching for the best psychologist in Los Angeles, here's what I think matters most: experience, honesty, and a therapist who actually does something in the session beyond just listening.

I've been practicing for 26+ years. I hold a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, two master's degrees including one from USC, and I'm licensed by the California Board of Psychology. But credentials only tell you so much. What my clients consistently say is that I'm direct, engaged, and willing to push them toward change.

How I Work

I'm not passive. In session, I take an engaged role whether I'm working with a couple stuck in the same fight for the tenth year or an individual who can't figure out why success still feels empty.

I don't do therapy by formula. I listen closely, I respond honestly, and I help you change the patterns that keep you stuck. If you've tried therapy before and it felt like talking in circles, this will feel very different.

What I Speclialize In

Who I Work With

I work with high-achieving adults, couples, and teens across Los Angeles. Many of my clients are people who look like they have it all together from the outside but inside, they're carrying more than anyone around them realizes.

Executives, founders, attorneys, physicians, entertainers, and their families. People who need a therapist who understands pressure, complexity, and the cost of always performing.

What Clients Say

Dr. Jené Verchick has worked with clients from all over Los Angeles and Southern California—including Beverly Hills, Malibu, Manhattan Beach, Newport Beach, and greater Los Angeles. Her clients come from diverse backgrounds including executives, entrepreneurs, families, and couples but they share one thing in common: they trust Dr. Verchick to help them navigate life’s most personal challenges with compassion, expertise, and discretion.

“We came to Dr. Verchick at a breaking point in our marriage. I was convinced we wouldn’t make it another year. She helped us slow down, really listen to each other, and finally communicate without anger. For the first time in years, I feel hopeful about my relationship. She gave us the tools to rebuild, and I can honestly say she changed our marriage.”
— Client, Beverly Hills

“As someone with a demanding career in Malibu, I never thought I had time for therapy. Dr. Verchick helped me see that my anxiety was running my life, not my job. Her approach made it easy to open up, and she gave me strategies I could actually use every single day. I feel calmer, more focused, and more present with my family.”
— Client, Malibu

“Going through a divorce in Manhattan Beach was the hardest thing I’ve ever faced. I felt lost and overwhelmed. Dr. Verchick helped me through every stage—the grief, the anger, and the process of finding myself again. She was steady when I wasn’t. Today I feel stronger, more confident, and ready for what’s next.”
— Client, Manhattan Beach

“We’re a successful couple in Newport Beach, but behind closed doors our marriage was falling apart. We didn’t need another friend telling us to ‘work it out’—we needed real guidance. Dr. Verchick held us accountable and showed us how to reconnect in a meaningful way. She understands the pressures of high-achieving families and gave us a safe space to be real. We’re in such a better place now.”
— Client, Newport Beach

“I was skeptical about therapy. I didn’t want to sit in a room and talk in circles. But Dr. Verchick made me feel comfortable right away. She gets straight to the heart of the issue while still being incredibly compassionate. Therapy with her has been the best investment I’ve ever made in myself.”
— Client, Los Angeles

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a good psychologist?

A good psychologist is direct, experienced, and willing to challenge you. Years of training matter, but so does what the psychologist does inside the room. I don't sit back and nod. When I see a pattern that's keeping you stuck, I name it. I don't waste time with endless circular conversations. We get to the heart of the issues quickly and work on them directly.

What is your background and training?

I hold a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles, two master's degrees including one from USC in Child, Adolescent, and Family Therapy, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Arizona. I am licensed by the California Board of Psychology (PSY 18703) and have been in practice for over 26 years.

Who do you work with?

Adults, teens, and couples. I work with high-functioning professionals, including founders, executives, attorneys, physicians, and entertainers. I also work with Jewish individuals and couples across the spectrum, including Persian Jewish, Ashkenazi, Sephardic, Modern Orthodox, and intermarried families.

What kinds of issues do you treat?

Couples therapy, marriage counseling, premarital counseling, infidelity recovery, anxiety and panic disorders, grief, life transitions, intergenerational family dynamics, and individual therapy for high-functioning adults.

What is your therapy approach?

Active and direct. I take a real role in the room. With couples, I step in and help you respond to each other differently in real time. With individuals, I'm direct and honest. I won't let you stay stuck in patterns that aren't serving you.

How does the first session work?

The first session is about fit. I meet with you, or with both of you if you're coming as a couple. I want to hear what brought you in and what you're hoping to change. I also start working with you right away. You will not leave the first session feeling like all we did was fill out paperwork.

How do I know if you're the right psychologist for me?

The first conversation is about that question. I'd rather you find the right fit than start with the wrong person. If after we talk I think you'd be better served by someone else, I'll say so.
